ASMI welcomes Associate Professor Brian Owler to the AMA

26 May 2014 - The Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI) today congratulated Associate Professor Brian Owler on his appointment as Federal President of the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

In welcoming A/Professor Owler to his new role ASMI Executive Director Dr Deon Schoombie said the depth and breadth of his experience in medicine, surgery, public policy and advocacy places him in a unique position to represent AMA members.

"A/Professor Owler is well known in the community and amongst the medical profession for public education and advocacy campaigns on speeding, alcohol-related violence and the health impacts of alcohol abuse.

"We are looking forward to working with A/Professor Owler on a range of public health initiatives to increase the health literacy of consumers and help them to become more actively engaged in their healthcare," said Dr Schoombie.
