ASMI launches online induction course to build knowledge and promote QUM across the consumer healthcare industry

20 August 2013 - The Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI) has today launched an interactive online induction course for the Australian Consumer Healthcare Industry. The first-of-its-kind online resource is expected to become an industry standard, ensuring high levels of knowledge, compliance and Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) promotion across the sector.

With five core learning modules, the ASMI Online Industry Induction Course will familiarise individuals and teams with healthcare regulations, medicine scheduling, marketing and advertising regulations as well as an understanding of the broader healthcare system, the pharmacy environment and the role of ASMI as the industry's voice.

The course is aimed at professionals working within the consumer healthcare industry in fields such as sales, particularly those dealing with pharmacy staff, regulatory, marketing and communications and customer services. Advertising, public relations and design agencies that support manufacturers of over-the-counter products and complementary medicines are also encouraged to undertake the training.

Available 24 hours a day, the self-paced online format is flexible for individuals to fit the course in around their work and home commitments. The course is iPad-friendly and there are printable reference pages. These features are great for remote teams such as interstate-based individuals or sales representatives on the road. There are also functions available for managers to track their team's progress.

Depending on pace and knowledge, completion of the five modules can take anywhere between four and six hours and there is a course management program available that tracks how much of a module has been completed, which sections have been visited and how many modules the user has completed and been tested on.

The programme has been designed with interactive content for an enhanced learning experience, with the five modules providing a valuable addition to in-house training. Individuals who score 75 per cent or more on the master quiz once completing the five modules are awarded with an ASMI Accreditation Certificate.

The cost of the course is $595 + GST for ASMI members and $795 + GST for non ASMI-members. A 10 per cent group discount applies when five or more people register together.
