ASMI Conference puts the spotlight on 'innovating' to a self care future
22 July 2015 -Innovating to a Self Care Future is the theme of the Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI) annual conference this year. The ASMI Diamond Awards Dinner, the premier industry event for the year, will take place following the conference.
ASMI Marketing and Business Development Director, Filomena Maiese, said: ASMI's conference will put the spotlight on the key drivers of growth for consumer healthcare moving forward - delivering consumer healthcare innovation, healthcare regulatory reform, prescription-to-OTC switch, advances in evidence-based complementary medicines and how 'Big Data' is being used to better understand and meet the needs of the health consumer.
"International speakers will look at global trends and drivers in consumer healthcare; cutting-edge innovations in the industry; the changing complementary medicines sector, and prescription-to-OTC switch as an exciting growth driver for consumer healthcare.
"One of ASMI's key focus areas this year has been garnering support for the Self Care Alliance. We will hear direct from the convener of the Self Care Alliance on how this movement is gaining momentum in Australia.
"While New Zealand is leading the way globally when it comes to prescription-to-OTC switch, Australia lags behind the rest of the world. Reasons underpinning these performance differences will be explored and recent switches in New Zealand will be examined - reviewing insights, benefits and learnings which can be transferred to the Australian context. Some of the recent New Zealand case studies to be considered include injectable vaccines, sildenafil and trimethoprim.
"We will also hear from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) about healthcare regulatory reforms impacting consumer access to medicines and the latest on theExpert Review of Medicines and Medical Devices.
"Finally, Quantium, who are at the forefront of 'Big Data' in Australia, will share how Big Data can be used for strategic advantage.
"The ASMI Diamond Awards Dinner, which honours manufacturers and suppliers of non-prescription medicines who excel in the marketing and sales of their products, will follow the conference. The Awards champion the highest standards of excellence in the non-prescription medicines industry," added Ms Maiese.
