ASMI Conference brings global best practice in self care into sharp focus
14 July 2014 - Self Care: A Brighter and
Healthier Future is the theme of the Australian Self Medication
Industry (ASMI) annual conference this year. The ASMI Diamond
Awards Dinner, the premier industry event for the year, will take
place following the conference.
ASMI Executive Director Deon Schoombie said the conference will explore global insights and new evidence in the area of self care. "One of ASMI's key areas of focus over the last year has been building the evidence-base for self care. We have done this by commissioning several research projects in a range of areas that impact consumer access to medicines. The insights gained from some of this research will be presented at the conference.
"Multiple dimensions of self care will be explored by internationally recognised speakers from Australia and overseas. International speakers will look at global trends and future drivers in self care; research which demonstrates the health care cost savings resulting from self care in the US, and the management of self care in the UK. Global best practice in healthcare retailing will be put under the spotlight as will Australian consumer healthcare research.
"We will hear from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)
about regulatory reform that will impact consumer access to
medicines in Australia, and from the Pharmaceutical Society of
Australia about how pharmacies are becoming health
"The speakers will bring global best practice in self care into sharp focus and demonstrate the importance of basing self care policies on a strong evidence base.
"The ASMI Diamond Awards Dinner, which honours manufacturers and
suppliers of non-prescription medicines who excel in the marketing
and sales of their products, will follow the conference. The Awards
champion the highest standards of excellence in the
non-prescription medicines industry," says Schoombie.
