ASMI acknowledges the strong leadership of Dr Brendan Shaw from Medicines Australia
27 May 2014 - The Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI) today acknowledged the strong leadership and collaborative style of Dr Brendan Shaw as he leaves Medicines Australia for a senior role within the global pharmaceutical industry.
ASMI Executive Director Dr Deon Schoombie said that ASMI and
Medicines Australia (MA) worked closely together on a number of
healthcare policy issues in recent years.
"We collaborated during the Federal Government review of self-regulatory arrangements guiding industry's promotional activities directed to healthcare professionals, which resulted in amendments to industry codes.
"ASMI and MA also worked together to get support for reforms to bring data protection arrangements in line with international standards.
"Through the Medicines Partnership of Australia (MPA) we developed positions on and responses to issues impacting all stakeholders operating under the National Medicines Policy - industry, pharmacy and wholesalers.
"The Australian pharmaceutical industry has greatly benefited
from the vision and efforts of Dr Shaw. He has made a substantial
